Tammie Rubin was born in Chicago, Illinois. As a sculptor she explores clay’s inherent amorphous materiality. Her work is about invented narratives utilizing recognizable objects. She explores ideas of the role of ornament and trophy in our daily lives, pushing these ideas into the absurd. In 2003 Tammie completed her MFA in ceramics at the University of Washington. She was awarded a grant from Artist Trust, Grants for Artist Projects (GAP), and an Artist Project Grant from the Illinois Arts Council. She has exhibited nationally, some recent exhibitions include the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Lillstreet Art Center, Pottery Northwest, Wakeley Gallery at Illinois Wesleyan, Landmarks Gallery at Texas Tech University, Target Gallery at the Torpedo Art Center and Cinema Gallery in Urbana, Il. Currently she is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
